Today I posted on Facebook asking for immediate prayers for a family member. When I told my best friend about the situation, she also posted asking for prayers. Almost immediately, people started emailing and texting both of us to ask what was going on. Does it really matter? Do you really need to know? When someone asks for prayers, don't stop to ask why. Just pray.
Later, I posted about the death of my dear sister-in-law. This wasn't a plea for sympathy or cry for attention. It was a post to let people know about our family's loss and a request for prayers for healing and acceptance. Again, I started getting emails asking what happened. Some people even contacted my best friend to find out what happened.
Well, if I wanted you to know what happened, I would've posted it publicly on Facebook. All that matters is that she's gone, and I'm asking you to pray. Don't ask questions. Just pray. Pray for the man who lost his wife. Pray for the children who lost their mother. Pray for the family that lost a daughter/sister/aunt/sister-in-law/niece/granddaughter/daughter-in-law.
The point I'm trying to make in this post is to please respect the privacy of the family when a tragic event occurs. Give them a fucking minute to grieve. When they ask for prayers, pray. When we are ready to talk about what happened, we'll talk. Until then, don't ask questions. Just pray for healing.
